The health care industry, communities, families, and individuals are experiencing a profound impact due to the widespread opioid epidemic. Opioid abuse has recently been declared a national emergency and considered the deadliest drug crisis in American history—unfortunately, Alabama is at the front of the battle with levels of abuse and deaths at a staggering amount. The increasing rate of opioid deaths as well as heightened investigation of prescribing practices by law enforcement, regulatory agencies, and state medical boards has ignited the need for health centers to know and understand the risks and strategies for risk mitigation. As employers, health centers can face legal sanctions for the misuse of prescribing, including malpractice liability, medical board discipline, and criminal convictions—recent investigations and legal action have proven the employer liability risks. This 2 day session will educate health centers—as employers--on the risks associated with prescribing and dispensing across their providers; additionally, quality, clinical, and support staff will receive an overview of recommended practice guidelines and related risk management strategies.
Who Should Attend: CEOs, COOs, CMOs, Compliance Officers, Clinical and Risk Management staff.
