Between 2005-2020, growth and demand for physicians in Alabama will likely outpace growth in supply for physicians. The expected magnitude of this shortage is approximately 4,400 physicians, or about 12 percent of the number of physicians required to meet the forecast demand for physician services in 2020. The Alabama Primary Health Care Association is aggressively working in collaboration with other stakeholders to ensure Alabamians continue to have access to qualified primary care providers.
