Access to Care

Lack of access to health care can have far-reaching consequences. Individuals and families lacking access to basic primary care and preventive services are faced with higher rates of disease complications and reduced quality of life. All Americans should have access to affordable health care, including primary care, prescription drugs, ADD and other CHC services.

Health centers are non-profit community-based organizations that offer essential primary and preventive care services to populations with limited access to health care. Typically services are provided on a sliding-fee scale based on an individual's ability to pay or through insurance including private plans, Medicare, Medicaid, ALL Kids, and others. Health center services frequently extend beyond the center's physical location to better reach underserved populations. Additionally, community health centers often partner with other organizations to ensure individuals have access to those services that fall beyond the realm of primary care including referrals for specialty care.
